The Sunrise County Arts Institute Creative Retreats

A Room of Your Own! We offer special Creativity Retreats for writers, visual artists, songwriters and composers throughout the year, and singing retreats as well!* The fees paid for these retreats help to support SCAI's work in the community. Our 3BR, 2-bath attached apartment wing, handicap-accessible, with its own kitchen, laundry and private entrances, is available for individual creators or a small group. Cross the field to our private wooded point, with its 270-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, the mouth of Narraguagus Bay and its islands, and the town center of Milbridge across the water.

Take the stairway down to the beach for a stroll or a dip. Rent a kayak from a nearby business, or go whale-watching or island-viewing from the deck of a local tour guide's boat. Buy fresh lobster, clams, "wrinkles" and scallops in season from the people who harvest and prepare them.

We currently look for a minimum stay of 3 nights and hope you'll want to stay longer. Ask us about your needs! Come as an individual, or with your own personal small group of trusted fellow creatives!

Each November, we offer special retreat opportunities for writers. Though beloved NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers' Month) ceased its operations in recent years, we honor its tradition. Optional support groups and activities remain.

Fund-Raising News

When we launched SCAI in 2014, a major startup gift from the Villchur Foundation in Woodstock, NY, helped us greatly with our first years' initiatives, activities and scholarship offerings. Since then, significant contributions from anonymous donors and The Columbia (ME) Players, have helped us expand our activities.

We appreciate equally the gifts SCAI receives from members of our Maine community and friends all over the world. Every donation, large or small, counts!

To sustain and expand our programs going forward, we look to the continued generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations to balance with our own significant volunteered professional time.
